Today was a pretty good Monday! It is a short week, the students have a full day today and tomorrow, then Wednesday and Thursday are half days because of Parent-Teacher Conferences. During math today the students were learning more about how to tell time, and many were confused by this concept. Some students went ahead and ended up getting stuck because they did not wait for my instruction. For future lessons, I will make sure to be more strict about students not going ahead of me while I am teaching. After lunch, the students were on IXL working on how to tell time to practice this concept. Hopefully more practice will make it easier for them!
Yesterday was one of my student's birthday, so he brought in cupcakes today to celebrate. Mrs. Palmer was right when she said that teachers get a lot of sweets from students and parents! The cupcakes were delicious by the way...
In the afternoon I observed Mrs. Palmer teach a whole class literacy lesson. This is helping me prep for my edTPA and how I should teach literacy. Tomorrow I will be taking over literacy as well, another step to becoming full time! Science was exciting today! Our Painted Ladies turned into Pupae, so now they are Painted Lady Pupae! I got to teach the students about the chrysalis and what the pupae is. They were so excited to see them change! During specials Mrs. Palmer and I transferred them to the butterfly net, it was so scary! I was so afraid one would fall off and not be able to turn to a butterfly. I told the students they must be careful around them because they are very fragile right now! They should change again in about a week, I'm so excited!
During science my student teaching supervisor observed me. Throughout my lesson I felt very confident and that I was meeting the needs of every student. The students were observing the mealworms at their desk and coming back to observe the chrysalis in small groups. During the lesson my supervisor was also interacting with the students observing, which was awesome! After my lesson, my supervisor told me I did very well. That I managed the students well and was attentive to every student, not just the small group in the back. I'm so happy today's lesson went well because I was getting evaluated! Overall this was a pretty good day. We upped the daily Dojo expectations from 5 to 6 points, and most students met that goal!
