Another Monday

Today I got sad, scared, and excited all at the same time. Sad, because my placement is done in exactly three weeks, scared because my edTPA is due in exactly three weeks, but also excited that my edTPA is due in three weeks (because then it'll be DONE!).

This week I basically take over everything, and Mrs. Palmer wont be doing much in terms of in-class things. For math, the students were working with estimating. They had to estimate different lengths of things based on some given information. For the most part, the students understood and caught on quickly. I had to have enrichment things prepared for the students who were done extra early (which Mrs. Palmer helps put together). During morning snack, one of my students almost made me gag in the middle of class. He was eating his yogurt, spitting it back in the cup, and RE-EATING IT!!! It was disgusting!!! I tried to not make a scene and draw attention to it, but I couldn't help it.

The students couldn't have regular tech today because other students were testing, so they were in the classroom on the COWS (laptops) on Compass Learning. After lunch, I led a literacy center about a Scholastic News article that the school gets every month. This went well overall! The students enjoyed popcorn reading and working in the small group for this time.

To end the day, we had Science. Today was just a catch up day, where I wanted students to work and catch up on any observations they still needed. So, I had different centers for each insect, and students were working in the room where they needed to be. We also filled out a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting mealworms and waxworms, the students did very well! I didn't have to prompt anything in terms of information and they were attentive during the lesson. During independent work time, things got a bit loud, so the students did not receive their Science point.

The end of the day is always crazy! The last 15 minutes always stress me out, and I just want them to get out the door with everything they need!
